This page is maintained by Playhuman and describes our current practices. We do not sell your personal information, and you can ask us to access or delete your data at any time.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Playhuman Ltd (“Playhuman”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the Playhuman websites, applications, creator tools and storefronts (together, the “Services”).
It applies to viewers, creators, network partners and anyone who contacts us or applies to work with us. It sits alongside our Terms of Service and Cookie Policy.
This page is maintained by Playhuman to answer common privacy questions about the Services. It describes our current practices. It is not a certification or an independent audit.
2. Who we are
Playhuman Ltd is the data controller for personal information processed through the Services, unless a specific notice says otherwise. Where we handle information on behalf of a network or brand partner under their instructions, that partner is the controller and we act as processor.
You can reach our privacy team at privacy@playhuman.com.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us
- account details such as name, username, email address and password credentials;
- creator onboarding information including channel details, links to existing audiences and the categories you publish in;
- identity and payout information where you monetise: legal name, date of birth, tax status and bank or wallet details, collected through our payment partners;
- content you upload, including video, audio, images, captions and metadata;
- messages, comments, support tickets, survey answers and anything else you choose to send us.
3.2 Information we collect automatically
- device and browser type, operating system, language and approximate region;
- usage data such as pages viewed, watch time, playback quality, clicks, referrers and session timestamps;
- IP address and security logs used to detect abuse and protect accounts;
- cookie and similar identifiers, as described in our Cookie Policy.
3.3 Information from third parties
We may receive information from payment providers, identity verification services, social platforms you connect, analytics providers and anti-fraud partners. We only accept data we need for the purposes set out below.
4. Children and age limits
The Services are not directed at children under 16. You must be 16 or over to hold a viewer account and 18 or over to hold a creator account, receive payouts or purchase Sparks.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child below the applicable age, we delete that information and close the account. If you believe a child has given us data, contact privacy@playhuman.com and we will act on it.
5. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and administer accounts and authenticate sign-ins;
- host, deliver and format content, and keep playback working across devices;
- operate monetisation: Sparks, tips, purchases, revenue splits, invoices and payouts;
- recommend content, remember where you left off and personalise what you see on the Services;
- keep the platform safe: moderation, fraud and spam prevention, view-inflation detection and enforcement of our Community Guidelines;
- provide support, respond to reports and communicate service, security and policy updates;
- measure and improve the Services through aggregated analytics and product research;
- send marketing where you have opted in, and honour opt-outs;
- meet legal, tax, accounting and regulatory obligations.
5.1 Automated decisions
Automated systems help rank content and flag possible policy or fraud violations. Decisions with a significant effect, such as demonetisation or account termination, are reviewed by a person, and you can appeal them through support.
6. Legal bases for processing
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases.
- Contract
- To provide the Services you asked for: accounts, playback, purchases, payouts and support.
- Legitimate interests
- To secure the platform, prevent fraud and abuse, understand usage in aggregate and improve the product, balanced against your rights.
- Consent
- For non-essential cookies, optional personalisation signals and marketing messages. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation
- To keep tax and payment records, respond to lawful requests and comply with content regulation.
8. Subprocessors and integrations
The Services depend on a small number of infrastructure and tooling providers. Categories we use include cloud hosting and databases, video storage and delivery, payment and payout processing, identity verification, product analytics, transactional email and customer support.
Each provider is bound by a written agreement limiting them to processing on our instructions. A current list of named subprocessors is available on request from privacy@playhuman.com, and we notify network partners of material changes under their agreements.
10. International transfers
We are based in the United Kingdom and work with providers in the UK, the European Economic Area and the United States. Where personal information leaves the UK or EEA, we rely on adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses together with additional technical and organisational safeguards.
You can ask us for information about the transfer mechanism used for a specific provider.
11. Retention and deletion
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described here.
- Account data
- For as long as your account is active, then deleted or anonymised after closure.
- Published content
- Until you remove it, with a short window for copies held in backups and delivery caches.
- Payment and tax records
- Retained for the period required by financial and tax law.
- Security and moderation logs
- Kept for a limited period to investigate abuse and repeat violations.
You can request deletion of your account at any time; see the section on your rights below.
12. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent and opt out of marketing.
To exercise a right, email privacy@playhuman.com or use the contact page. We respond within one month and may ask you to verify your identity first. There is no charge for a reasonable request.
If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
13. How we protect information
We use encryption in transit, access controls scoped to the minimum needed, authenticated sessions, row-level authorisation on stored records, audit logging and regular dependency updates.
No online service can promise perfect security. We work on a shared-responsibility basis: we secure the platform, and you help by using a strong unique password, protecting your credentials and reporting anything suspicious.
14. Security contact and incident reporting
Report a suspected vulnerability or security issue to security@playhuman.com. Please include enough detail to reproduce the issue and give us reasonable time to fix it before public disclosure.
If a personal data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we notify the relevant regulator and affected users as required by law.
15. Creators and network partners
Creator accounts involve extra processing: identity and payout verification, performance and revenue reporting, and rights or takedown handling.
If you join a network, we share performance and payout information with that network so it can manage your representation. Where the network sets its own purposes for that data, it is responsible for its own privacy notice and for how it handles the information it receives.
16. Changes to this policy
We update this policy as the Services change. When a change is material we will give notice in the product or by email before it takes effect, and we always update the “last updated” date above.
Continuing to use the Services after a change takes effect means the updated policy applies.
17. Contact us
